The end game is taking shape. Yesterday, the Spokesperson for the State Department made a point of reading the official position of the Obama administration in the two state solution:
This is significant only in the context, that PA president Mahmoud Abbas is going to be in New York, and there are, at this point, no plans to announce a meeting of State Department representatives to meet with him. This statement is as close to a US admission that the two state solution does not have a chance of being advanced currently, as the State Department is likely to get. It dares Abbas to come out in public and present his position on the two state solution, and it avoids any mention of Israel’s position. This is what is left of the Cairo speech – and frankly, this amounts to close to nothing!
